"A few years ago, I injured my lower back in, of all things, a gentle yoga class. I was a very active sports enthusiast. Because of the pain and soreness in my back, I had to stop almost all my activities. After seeing three chiropractors, two yoga therapists, two massage therapists, a craniosacral therapist, and an orthopedist, I was very frustrated that my condition had not improved. Then my chiropractor referred me to Krisen and her one-on-one Pilates therapy. Through her assessment of my body's movement, Krisen was able to isolate problematic movements and weak muscles. She was also able to offer an explanation for my pain, something no other practitioner could provide. After doing the daily customized workout she designed for me, my condition improved greatly and I was able to return to many of my previous athletic activities. Krisen has been a lifesaver for working with chronic pain; she was able to help where nobody else could."

pilates

The Pilates (pi-LAH-teez) method of body conditioning was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates called his method Contrology, which refers to the way the method encourages the use of the mind to control the muscles. With practice, this system of stretching and strengthening exercises will tone muscles, improve posture, provide flexibility and balance, alleviate and prevent pain, create a more streamlined physique, and unite body and mind. The realization of each person's physical capabilities opens up the method to all ages and abilities. Joseph Pilates didn't believe in forcing the body into strained postures or pushing it to repeat the same motions over and over again to the point of exhaustion. He preferred fewer, more precise movements, requiring control and form that ultimately help the mind and body feel rejuvenated and refreshed.

The Fix offers: Private Lessons, Duet Lessons, Independent Workouts, and Group Classes for all levels. Please see the schedule for more information on classes currently being offered.

somatics

Somatics is the study of the soma: your own body as you perceive it from within. Somatics recognizes that you are a self healing and self regulating being. The somatics practice has educational, exercise, and hands-on components all designed to reeducate your sensory motor system. Your sensory motor system often needs to be reeducated because of sensory motor amnesia (the memory loss of how a certain muscle feels and how to control it). Sensory motor amnesia occurs as a reflex response to stress, bad postural habits, improper body mechanics, injury, aging, and trauma. Somatics can be used to help improve skeletal function, respiration, and blood pressure. It can also alleviate stress, headaches, insomnia, fatigue, and more. The integrative nature of the exercises can dramatically improve movement ability, eliminate pain, and relieve stress. The hands-on techniques generally address the patterns and reflexes that we experience as we age, and can specifically address pain, dysfunction, and trauma. They can remind your body how to relax and move with ease.

The Fix offers: Private Lessons, and Group Classes for all levels. Please see the schedule for more information on classes currently being offered.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is a hands-on manipulation of soft tissues and joints of the body. Clients are completely covered by a sheet, on a table, while a variety of techniques are applied with the goal of promoting optimal health and well-being. It is a therapy that treats the whole person, mind, and body. Scientific studies have proven that it is a key component of health maintenance with profound therapeutic effects, no longer just a luxurious service. The benefits of massage are extensive, and act directly on the muscular, skeletal, nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic (immune) systems. It is an especially important adjunct to any fitness or sports regime, helping maximize performance and minimize injury. Over time, the cumulative benefits of massage at regular intervals will combat the effects of aging and help you live a productive, pain free life.

The Fix offers: 30, 60, and 90 minute massages.

athletic training

At The Fix, we do a thorough assessment to determine what is needed to improve your athleticism. The assessment includes an interview and various types of movement analysis. We will observe and video tape your game, practice, or show to learn how you move while you are in your element. Using this information, we will design a program for you and teach it to you in private lessons. Your program, which can include a wide range of rehabilitative and fitness techniques, can be practiced at home or in our studio or both. Once you are comfortable with your program you can move into semi-private lessons, join a group class, or use the studio to work out independently (without a teacher) for maintenance. The Fix staff has worked with many types of movers including golfers, football players, dancers, runners, yoga students, climbers, musicians, hockey players, martial artists, ice skaters, horse back riders, and skiers as well as people who are athletes in how they approach their daily lives.

The Fix offers: Private Lessons, Semi-Private Lessons, Independent Workouts, On-site coaching.

aerobics and toning

Aerobic exercise is necessary for a complete fitness program, especially if your goal is weight loss and/or reducing high blood pressure. Aerobic exercise helps boost metabolism and stamina, and helps prevent and/or stop osteoporosis. It is also commonly used as a conditioning and cross training tool for athletes and dancers. The Fix offers aerobics classes and organizes group walks, runs, bikes, and hikes. Aerobic exercise can be part of the programs designed for students at home or at the studio. The Fix offers toning classes and uses hand weights, weighted balls, and weighted bars to strengthen and shape problem areas and to supplement practices that might normally involve springs or therabands.

The Fix offers: Private Lessons, and Group Classes for all levels. Please see the schedule for more information on classes currently being offered.

Dance

The Fix offers classes, workshops, and performances. The teachers are varied in style and encourage students to focus on creativity, body and spatial awareness, alignment, phrasing, movement efficiency, strength, and flexibility. We explore musicality, partnering, and performance through practicing movement patterns which build up to full body dance combinations. Our teachers often experiment with repertoire, teaching styles, and performance ideas within the structure of the class.

The Fix offers: A variety of techniques including Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Dance Composition, Partnering, Repertory, Tumbling/Tricks, Labanotation, and children's classes on a rotating schedule. Please see the schedule for more information on classes currently being offered.
